Step 3 - Align your journey with your purpose using a Personal Scorecard

Learn more about a Personal Scorecard here. What is your purpose in the world? What actions in what domains might align your journey more with your purpose? What metrics will define success and guide you towards achieving each action in each domain?

James’ 2006 Scorecard below includes a promise (or “stand”) in each of four domains he felt had bearing on his purpose. In 2010 he noticed that he was failing to keep the promise in the first domain: “I will call Vicky once a fortnight.” It turns out that failing well by noticing the failure and doing something about it is a core skill in Individual Innovation. More on that in James’ 2017 TEDx talk.

In the School for Love at Wayne Presbyterian Church we focused on love of God, love of Self and love of Others. With help from Dr Julie Scheetz-Willard, in Step 2 of our “Finding God in the Faith of Others” course we shared reflections about our interactions with other world views and religions over our life. We also shared key events on our Faith Journey Maps. In this Step 3, we were inspired by Prof. Iacocca’s Purpose and Scorecard, and we asked what promises and actions from our scorecards we might make to guide our life in a way that is aligned with our purpose.

Paper and writing implements like crayons work for making a Personal Scorecard. Enjoy the process and discuss it with friends and family.
