This video shows one interpretation of this idea

Below are some different innovation processes

Open Conversations
Communicate with stakeholders. Set evaluation criteria
Seek Understanding
Ask questions.
Do not confuse understanding with agreement
Create Possibilities
Generate lots of ideas. Record, group and build on them
Evaluate Solutions
Evaluate solutions against criteria. Select the best solutions
Discover value through Action
Try things out. Discover value by implementing plans together!

Here are some of the groups from whom we have learned

  1. IDEO: Understand; Observe; Visualize; Evaluate & Refine; Implement.
  2. SolutionPeople’s Diamond Solution Process: Investigate Needs; Create Ideas; Evaluate Solutions; and Activate Plans.
  3. Russell Ackoff and Shel Rovin’s Idealized Design process has participants imagine the perfect system with no constraints, consider the possibilities and activate system-wide solutions.
  4. Edward DeBono’s Six Thinking Hats concept allows for the separation of thinking about emotions, logic, information, hope, creativity and thinking itself so that participants vary their thinking on a challenge.
  5. Arthur VanGundy’s innovation facilitation process involves a “game plan” that matches creativity techniques with the energy and needs of the group. His All Star Minds concept facilitates access to ideas to answer your questions from around the globe – literally!
  6. Innovation Focus utilize their "Hunting for Hunting Grounds" process and also Ethnography to explore innovative solutions and needs.

We believe that organizations need to actively nurture people who think differently from their mainstream.

Sometimes we limit our own ability to innovate by selecting people just like ourselves with whom to work.

This way, we become a barrier to innovation. As Pogo said: "We have met the enemy and he is us
!"

We believe that innovation requires diversity of thought.
